In one regard it’s pretty cool I am drinking and reviewing a near sixty dollar retail wine. The other half of this coin is telling, in that I am going through the wine in my tiny cellar. The days of searching the discount wine offers daily are pretty much over, and save the random wine club every now and then, our palates here on sweaty third are going to be pretty thirsty quick. Anyone needing some wines reviewed feel free to contact me. We would be happy to review anything you send for our readers. So onto the wine at hand.
I was feeling like having a white tonight. The weather in South Florida has broke, but just not enough to garner an itch for the red. Salmon burgers and sweet potato fries were getting whipped up in the kitchen, and this 2006 Bjornstad Chardonnay was decanting on the counter.
On the nose I can’t get past the honey, honey, honey. Add some apple pie yummyness, and you got this wines bouquet pretty much nailed down. The colour here is a crazy straw yellow. Really awesome.
The mouth-feel is pretty full, and syrupy. Strong enough acid to allow the complexities to come through. I really dig on this mineral heavy wine and its heavy honey notes. Some tasty shaved coconut and candied ginger come through as well. Damn. Yum City. Porter Bass ain’t no joke.
The take away with this wine is that if you have the dough, check it out. I was lucky enough to get it on discount. Looks like no more Bjornstad Chard for me anytime soon.
